Causes of yeast infection in infants and babies

Infants are sensitive, delicate and more prone to contact any infection if proper care is not taken. Infants and babies have a low immune system and are thus vulnerable to contract any form of infection. One of the infection that’s so common in infants and babies is the yeast infection. There are so many causes of yeast infection in babies and infants. Some of these causes include; infection from the mother at the time of birth, high intake of antibiotics, lack of proper bathing or hygiene for the baby and uses of harsh soaps and products on the infant. These are the main causes of yeast infection in infants and babies.
A baby can easy contact yeast infection during or after birth. If the mother happens to be affected by yeast infection, she is more likely to infect her baby. It is thus important for a mother to undergo through treatment if she is infected by yeast during pregnancy so as to avoid transferring the infection to her baby. In a situation where the mother is not infected by yeast, the baby can also get infected at birth. Yeast is present in the environment and can thus affect babies easily due to their low immune system.
Its funny how what we all know to be the way to fight harmful bacteria could turn out to be a yeast causative agent. Every time the word antibiotics is mentioned, the first thing that crosses your mind is a savior from the nagging bacteria that cause us infection such as influenza. This may not be true, just like everything in the world that has its advantages and disadvantages antibiotics could also be harmful. Taking of antibiotics may lead to the killing of the useful bacteria present in the body that are necessary to help in preventing infection such as yeast infections. Babies are prone to get yeast infection after undergoing antibiotic treatment. Antibiotics are also known to be administered on pregnant women who go through Cesarean-section delivery which as a result reduce the immunity of the mother and the infant to yeast infection. Some research indicate this as the main cause of the increase in the percentage of women and infants prone to yeast infection. They argue that there is an increase in the number of women going through C-section delivery that women who go through normal delivery.
These may not be the only causes of yeast infection in babies and infants. There are other factors that can contribute to yeast infection in babies such as early predisposal of the babies skin to harsh soups and products. So much care is needed while choosing the babies products to avoid this from happening. It is also necessary for mothers to avoid so much antibiotic administration for their little angels. Doctors can advise on alternative solution for the treatment of babies instead of the use of antibiotics. If there is an available way to cure the baby without the use of antibiotics, then this should be the choice to take.
